Which Celebrities Married Non-Celebrities?

Celebrities married to non-celebrities far outweigh those celeb power couples in the entertainment world. Who are these little known celebrity spouses? Check out my list below. Who is that beauty that the Good Will Hunting star married? Matt Damon’s wife is Luciana Barroso, a bartender whom he met while he was in Miami filming Stuck on You. They started dating and two years later they were wed in December of 2005. Together they had three children, Isabella, who is 5, Gia, who is almost 3 and Stella, who was born in October 2010. Barroso’s daughter Alexia is from her previous marriage, and Damon is quite the doting stepfather. Jeff Bridges’ wife is Susan Geston, whom he married in 1977. Wow! That is an eternity by Hollywood standards, eh? This longtime couple have three children, Isabelle (b. 1981), Jessica (b.1983) and Hayley (b.1985). Following his Best Actor Oscar win last year for his role as Bad Blake in Crazy Heart, reporters asked what the secret was to his success. He said, ?Oh, well, first thing that pops into my mind is my wife, my support, you know. She holds that kite string. Lets me go way out there, and then it?s [...]

Britney Spears Drops Official ‘Till The World Ends’ Remix

New track with Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha follows leaked version, plus Brit tweets single’s cover art.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Jive

Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of “Till the World Ends.”

The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers ” ‘Till the World Ends’ remix” before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, “Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f—ing life.”

Then Britney’s sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song’s first verse. “That’s Britney, bitch! I’m Nicki Minaj and that’s Ke$ha,” the Queens MC declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version, which was the second single from Femme Fatale. The newly added dubstep portion takes the one from “Hold It Against Me” to a new level by adding in bass-heavy synths.

Ke$ha, of course, wrote the track for Britney, and the ladies certainly don’t seem to mind sharing the spotlight with each other. The official track isn’t much different than the version that leaked over the weekend, though Spears did have something brand-new to share with her fans just as the song dropped on iTunes and streamed on her website.

Spears tweeted the artwork for the single, which features the original press photo of Spears along with separate photos of Nicki on the left and Ke$ha on the right. Spears wrote, “@NickiMinaj @Keshasuxx Too much fierceness for one cover! Thanks for lending your voices girls… #TTWEREMIX — Brit”

Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They hung out at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj’s show in Los Angeles. Spears later wrote, “Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can’t WAIT to get out on the road with you.”

What do you think of the “Till the World Ends” remix? Tell us in the comments!

‘Man Of Steel’ Henry Cavill Reacts To Production Delay

At Comic-Con 2011, actor also tells MTV News about meeting Russell Crowe, his co-star in Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot.

SAN DIEGO — Plenty of fans were surprised when news broke that the release date for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot, “Man of Steel,” was pushed back six months to June 14, 2013 — but none more so than the would-be superhero himself, Henry Cavill.

“They broke it to me gently,” he told MTV News on Saturday (July 23) at San Diego Comic-Con. “I was just told the other day. It’s OK, it’s nothing to do with me. That’s stuff which I have no control over. I just focus on the character and do my job.”

Speaking of stepping into the shoes of the iconic superhero — or tights, rather — Cavill said he’s “prepared enough” but anxious to start production. “I’m really raring to go,” he said. “It’s exciting, humbling, and about time to get started.”

Of course, Cavill couldn’t divulge many details about the upcoming shoot or what his fellow cast members may or may not be doing in the film, but he did provide a delightful anecdote about his first meeting with co-star Russell Crowe (who is playing his father, Jor-El).

Cavill recounted one of the very early days in his acting career when he worked as an extra in a film Crowe was shooting at his school. “I walked up to Russell, shook his hand, and said ‘I’m thinking of becoming an actor. What advice do you have?’ He said to me … No, I won’t say what he said,” Cavil said with a smile, indicating that his response might have included a swear word or two.

“Two days later, I received an Aussie rugby jersey, a [CD] and a signed picture from ‘Gladiator’ [with a note that read] ‘Dear Henry, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, Russell.’ Cut to 11 years later, at what is the high point of my career, and here we are.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Man of Steel.”

Michael Jackson’s Legacy, Two Years Later, By the Numbers

Legendary singer’s impact continues to blossom in the two years since his death; MTV News breaks down the figures.
By Gil Kaufman

Michael Jackson
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage

Like Elvis, Bob Marley, Notorious B.I.G. and Frank Sinatra before him, Michael Jackson‘s influence has continued, and grown, since his untimely death on June 25, 2009.

On the second anniversary of the King of Pop’s passing, MTV News took a look at the enduring appeal of MJ’s music, videos and imagery, which continue to fascinate and attract fans across the globe thanks to a series of posthumous albums, a movie, video games and two upcoming Cirque du Soleil live shows.

Where Were You Two Years Ago When You Heard the News? Tell Us on Facebook

$72 million: According to Box Office Mojo, Jackson’s posthumous concert film, “This Is It,” has grossed more than $72 million to date domestically and $189 million in foreign markets for a worldwide take over more than $261 million. It ranks as the #2 music documentary of all-time behind Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never.” The film has also generated nearly $45 million in DVD sales in the U.S.

16: In May, Jackson lodged his first #1 on the Billboard magazine Dance/ Club Play Songs chart in 16 years with the latest single from his posthumous Michael album, “Hollywood Tonight.”

2: Number of posthumous albums that have been released since Michael’s death in June 2009. Last year’s Michael has sold just over 510,000 copies to date, while the This Is It collection has moved nearly 1 million copies to date in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.

15,000: The number of videos submitted by fans since March for the crowdsourced video for “Behind the Mask.” After they were edited down by a five-person team over two months, the resulting clip used submissions from more than 1,600 participants from 103 countries.

3 million: The amount of copies sold of the Ubisoft “Michael Jackson: The Experience” video game worldwide.

$57 million: The reported cost of Cirque du Soleil’s traveling MJ show, “The Immortal World Tour, which is slated to kick off on October 2.

$1 billion: That gaudy figure is the reported amount the Jackson estate had generated by last June on the first anniversary of the singer’s death. According to Billboard, the revenue was generated by a combination of music sales ($429 million), film/TV revenue ($392 million), music publishing ($130 million), licensing ($35 million) and a $31 million recording contract. (A spokesperson for Jackson’s estate declined to provide updated figures for this story.)

$310 million: The amount of gross earnings reported by the executors of the estate in a December 2010 court filing detailing the progress made in paying off the $400 million in debt run up by the spendthrift singer during his lifetime.

16.1 million: MJ was always a big singles artist. Yes, Thriller is one of the best-selling albums of all time, but even in death, fans can’t resist cherry-picking some of Michael’s best songs. That explains why he’s sold more than 16 million digital tracks since June 28, 2009, the first sales week following his passing, according to Nielsen SoundScan. To put that in perspective, from the time Nielsen began counting digital tracks in 2004 until the week before Jackson’s death, the singer had sold just over 8.1 million digital tracks, a figure that has doubled in just the past two years.

2013: The projected launch for a second, non-touring Cirque show celebrating Jackson. The yet-untitled show is slated to open in the spring of 2013 at a new theater being built at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

$25 million to $50 million: That’s how much Jackson’s estate takes in on an annual basis thanks to his stake in the half-million-song Sony/ATV catalog, which includes titles by Elvis, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Beyoncé and Bob Dylan.

‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Trailer: What We Know So Far

From Peter Parker’s ‘daddy issues’ to his new leading lady, Spidey clip hints at what’s to come in 2012.
By Josh Wigler

This weekend’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” continues the charge of superhero supremacy at the box office this summer, and the grand tradition of Marvel heroes is sure to continue a year from now when “The Amazing Spider-Man” swings into action.

The first “Spider-Man” trailer hit the Web earlier this week (through both official and leaked channels), gifting comic book fans with the great power and great responsibility of delivering their snap judgments on Sony’s developing reboot — well ahead of its summer 2012 release. Of course, we’re not immune to having our own reactions here at MTV News. To that end, we took a closer look at the new Spidey trailer and found quite a bit to pick apart.

Even The Best Web-Heads Have Daddy Issues
Most “Spider-Man” fans are familiar with Peter’s relationship with Uncle Ben and Aunt May Parker, but the newest film’s first trailer puts a heavy emphasis on our hero’s birth parents. Although this territory has been covered before in the comics, it’s a story far less frequently told than Peter’s struggles with Uncle Ben’s death. But director Marc Webb has said before that “Amazing Spider-Man” will deal heavily with Peter’s daddy issues, and judging by the trailer, he wasn’t kidding.

The Dark Spider
If there’s one thing to take away from the “Spider-Man” trailer, it’s that this isn’t Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire’s web-slinger. In the hands of Webb and leading man Andrew Garfield, we’re seeing a Spider-Man story that takes itself much more seriously than the whimsical nature of the Raimi and Maguire era. Whether you approve of the tonal change will vary based on personal taste, but there’s certainly no arguing that this “Spider-Man” movie feels different than the last three, if nothing else.

When Andrew Met Emma
Another big change from the “Spider-Man” films of yesteryear is the removal of longtime love interest Mary-Jane Watson in favor of Gwen Stacy, played here by Emma Stone. Much of the trailer’s focus is on the budding relationship between Andrew and Emma’s characters, and already it feels as though they share more common ground with each other than Peter and MJ enjoyed in the first film’s opening chapters.

Back To Start
One thing that isn’t different from the previous Spider-flicks is that “Amazing” appears to be an origin story, just like the first Raimi-directed picture. It’s a curious choice: The original “Spider-Man” movie swung into theaters in 2002, and only 10 years later we’re seeing yet another re-telling of how Peter Parker got his radioactive spider-powers. There’s already debate about whether another origin story was worth the narrative cost, but we’ll reserve some judgment until we see the finished product — or, at least, another trailer.

First-Person Heroics
Speaking of other trailers, here’s hoping that the second “Spider-Man” spot puts a heavier emphasis on action than this first one. We don’t see Garfield in action albeit for a few shots two thirds of the way into the trailer, and even then, he’s without mask or costume. The final portion of the trailer, clocking in at almost a minute, focuses entirely on Spidey swinging from rooftop to rooftop … but all from the character’s own perspective. Again, it’s a curious choice to show the web-slinging action from Spidey’s point of view rather than allowing the viewer to gaze upon the hero in all of his glory. It’s bound to be a breathtaking sequence when the full movie hits theaters; as the capper for a first trailer, however, the “Spidey-cam” will likely turn some fans off.

What do you think of the first “Amazing Spider-Man” trailer? Tell us in the comments!

Captain America

Go see Captain America this weekend! Support our Colin!

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would’ve taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here’s a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

(Sit down, stop jumping around, it’s an awesome picture, I know. And the quality is amazing. It’s not grainy or reddish… it’s perfect.) (No, it’s not.)

(And you can totally see the Captain America logo on the side of the glasses.) (No, you can’t.)

Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT’S FANTASTIC!

Although the official kickoff of San Diego Comic-Con is still a day away, everyone heading down to the highly anticipated, heavily attended pop-culture convention is teeming with excitement — from the costume-clad fanboys to the hordes of celebrities.

Emma Stone recently expressed her enthusiasm for the convention’s famed Hall H, where she and her “Amazing Spider-Man” co-stars will present footage to fans. MTV News also caught up with Comic-Con veteran and admitted nerd Mila Kunis and Comic-Con newbie Justin Timberlake to get their thoughts on the Con while they were promoting their rom-com “Friends With Benefits.”

“I’m an expert at Comic-Con,” Kunis declared, adding that she is a much bigger geek than JT.

“I’m stoked to go,” Timberlake said, who will be on hand to promote “In Time,” his film co-starring Amanda Seyfried. “I’m really stoked to go. I don’t have anything to wear yet.”

“Do you want to borrow my Sailor Moon costume?” Kunis offered. “Or my Princess Leia dominatrix outfit?”

“Yeah,” Timberlake said, considering the idea for a moment. “I might stretch it out a little bit.”

‘Spider-Man’ Comic-Con Footage Will Be New To Emma Stone

She has seen the trailer, however, which she says is ‘pretty cool, but maybe I’m a little bit biased, contractually.’

San Diego Comic-Con is almost upon us! Known affectionately in some of the fanboy circles as “nerd prom,” this pop-culture extravaganza features a star-studded four-day celebration of the most highly anticipated movies and TV shows coming down the pike.

MTV News is covering the best of all the action via our “MTV News: Comic-Con Takeover,” three live-stream broadcasts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT. But before we get settled in San Diego, one of the Con’s featured guests, Emma Stone, recently gave us a little preview of what we might expect from her film, “The Amazing Spider-Man.”

“I think they’re going to be showing a little footage from the movie at Comic-Con. I have not seen that yet,” she admitted. Stone has, however, seen the official first trailer for the Marc Webb-directed reboot.

“I’ve seen the trailer, which I believe comes out [in front of] ‘Captain America’,” she said. “I thought it was pretty cool, but maybe I’m a little bit biased, contractually. I’m pretty excited about it,” she added with a smile. “We’ll see how people respond to it.”

Given the fact that Stone, Webb and her co-star Spidey/Peter Parker himself, Andrew Garfield, will be on hand to present the footage in front of thousands of fans in the convention center’s famous Hall H, we can almost guarantee that she has nothing to worry about. Stone is plenty excited already, especially for her return to the famous hall.

“Hall H! I love Hall H!” she said excitedly.

Be sure to tune in to our Comic-Con takeover starting Thursday. “MTV News: Comic-Con Takeover” features three live-stream broadcasts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT. Keep it locked to MTV.com and Splash Page for all the latest, greatest Comic-Con news. Jay-Z, Kanye West Try Dubstep On Watch The Throne

Producer Verse Simmonds opens up to MTV News about WTT track ‘Who Gon Stop Me.’

Jay-Z and Kanye West‘s collaborative Watch the Throne LP is shaping up to be the year’s most anticipated release.

So far, fans have heard the Southern-fried, Lex Luger-produced “H.A.M.” and the soul-drenched “Otis,” which premiered Wednesday night on New York radio. While the two records both feature hard-nosed lyrics from Hov and ‘Ye, their sounds couldn’t be more different.

Well, the sonic versatility doesn’t stop there. Singer/songwriter Verse Simmonds revealed to MTV News that the multiplatinum rap tandem will also be experimenting with dubstep on the new album.

After getting a call from Bu Thiam, Def Jam’s VP of A&R, to submit tracks for WTT, Simmonds and his production partner, Sham “Sak Pase” Joseph, immediately went to work. “What we did is, we locked in a week, we just went crazy on everything Jay and Kanye,” Simmonds told MTV News. “I remember telling Sham, I was like, ‘Yo, I think this dubstep stuff is going to be the next new flavor that everybody gotta be on. It gotta have a hip-hop feel to it still.’ ”

The result is “Who Gon Stop Me,” a track that, according to the “Buy You a Round” singer, is influenced by the U.K. style of electronic dance music. Together, Verse and Sak Pase make up the Jugganauts, and for “Who Gon Stop Me,” Joseph made the beat and Simmonds wrote and referenced the chorus.

“We started creating the track, and it just started to come crazy, so we came up with the concept,” Simmonds said before reciting a loose rendition of the song’s lyrics. “It was like, ‘Who gon stop me, huh? Black cards, Black cars, whole lot of money.’ ”

To pen the hook on the track, Verse said he first imagined himself in Jigga and Yeezy’s shoes. “When I recorded it, everybody was like, ‘Yo, you sound just like Kanye, you sound just like Jay-Z,’ ” he remembered. “It’s just crazy, because I felt like, at that moment in time, I was them. I got into that mode of: ‘What would these guys say? How would they say it?’ I think they heard it the first time and loved it.”

Hopefully, the fans will too.

Michael Jackson’s Legacy, Two Years Later, By the Numbers

Legendary singer’s impact continues to blossom in the two years since his death; MTV News breaks down the figures.

Kristen Stewart Talks “Twilight” Wedding at Comic-Con

Feeding the “Twilight” frenzy, Kristen Stewart was spotted on stage at San Diego Convention Center as part of Comic-Con 2011 earlier today (July 21).

The 21-year-old award-winning actress partook in the “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ panel discussion alongside co-stars Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner as well as the film’s director, Bill Condon.

As fans prepare for the epic big screen version of the franchise’s most-talked about event, Kristen was bombarded with questions surrounding her walk down the aisle with new on-screen hubby, Robert.

“The wedding was [filmed] Secret Service style insane. The crew was completely inconvenienced. There was no cell phone or email. [But] I said thank you so much [to them] because if this [wedding] dress gets on the Internet, I’ll die,” she told the crowd.

Stewart also described the feelings she had while readying herself to film the epic scene, telling, “When I got to set I was as nervous and terrified as I expected myself to be,” adding, “It was beautiful.”

Lady Gaga ‘Monster Ball’ Special Nabs Five Emmy Noms

It’s time to break the meat dress out of deep storage, or perhaps polish up the space egg, because Lady Gaga has another awards show to attend.

On Thursday morning (July 14), her “Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden” HBO special picked up five Primetime Emmy Award nominations, top-lined by a nod for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special. In that category, Gaga will face off against the annual Kennedy Center Honors telecast and a trio of rather, uh, unique challengers: Carrie Fisher, Bette Midler and Pee-Wee Herman, each of whom earned noms for their respective HBO specials.

The “Monster Ball” special also earned a nomination for Outstanding Directing (Gaga’s creative director, Laurieann Gibson, picked up the nod), and three technical noms: Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special; Outstanding Lighting Design/ Lighting Direction for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special; and Outstanding Picture Editing for a Special. In each of those categories, Gaga will take on the usual spate of awards telecasts (the 83rd Academy Awards, the 53rd Grammy Awards, etc.), not to mention comedians Ricky Gervais and Louis C.K., each of whom earned nods for their comedy specials.

Elsewhere, Gaga’s favorite show, “Glee,” was among the most-nominated programs, landing a nod for Outstanding Comedy Series. Stars Jane Lynch and Chris Colfer also earned nominations, as did guest stars Kristin Chenoweth, Dot-Marie Jones and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on Sunday, September 18, at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.

Will you be rooting for Gaga on Emmy night? Tell us in the comments!
